About us

Arizona Parrots has been training and breeding parrots for sale for more than 38 years.  We've been breeding and raising birds most of our lives in Tucson.  We began by selling Cockatiels in Tucson only and by careful planning all these years we are now producing some of the finest Macaw, Cockatoo, African Grey, Conure, Amazon, and Cockatiel bloodlines that can be found in the USA.

Almost every year in the first twenty years we found individual birds that could be paired to make quality breeding pairs.  The summer of 1994 was one particular year that we did many cage upgrades and modifications for our expanding bird collection and breeding facilities.  We spent several months building a new, more efficient suspended caging system.

The breeding cages are placed in a long row with a secure access aisle so we can examine the nest boxes safely with no risk of birds getting loose.  A quick note here, birds set free may sound not so bad to some people but the dry desert environment and native hawks would soon kill them.  These Parrot breeding aisles allows us to keep the nest box area quiet and dark, so that we are able to check the nest boxes with minimal disturbance to the babies.

The misting and irrigation system consists of seven irrigation timing clocks to turn the water on at selected times so the eleven hundred trees (each with two or three drip emitters) can be supplied with the water they need to survive in the hot, arid summers in Arizona.  The misting system consists of over 460 misting emitters to increase the humidity for eggs to properly be able to hatch.  The water bowl systems now turn on three times a day to flush each water bowl with fresh clean water.  With all of these water systems the air feels like a waterfall is nearby.

As you can see above we have lots of trees.  In fact, Jean (our ranch manager) and I began the tree project in 1980, over 29 years ago.  Shade trees, fruit trees and the misting system create a tropical atmosphere which helps the birds feel like they are in a jungle.  Our private water well pumps more than two thousand gallons of water per day to provide this moist jungle  environment.
